stardust, lying on the cold wet earth
The world outside is just so enticing
Glimmering with lights from neighboring houses
Glimmering with lights from neighboring houses
diffracting through needle-sized raindrops on my window pane
Those lights, they are like stars
Like the stars hidden behind that vast cloud cover
Beaming with all the freedom that a star should have
In their black space meadow
With all sorts of colors and patterns and speeds and shadows
Tracing their paths far across that dazzling playground
Those lights, they are like stars
Like the stars hidden behind that vast cloud cover
Beaming with all the freedom that a star should have
In their black space meadow
With all sorts of colors and patterns and speeds and shadows
Tracing their paths far across that dazzling playground
Spinning, sprinting with glee, those stars
Without need for legs, they fly fast
Never knowing a ground or wooden floor
Or what it feels like to be bound by gravity
In a room with a wall-length window that glimmers with lights
I think i will leave soon
Maybe today or tomorrow
On a night where the sky is clear
So i can race alongside my friends
finally pretend that im soaring
I tire of my life behind the window
Of my reflection, always watching me
She loathes me, I know it
She despises that girl that has chained her to the floor
I will set you free, I tell her
Into puddles and lakes
Then rivers and oceans
Where the stars will swim with us
Then rivers and oceans
Where the stars will swim with us
we'll play tag and catch them in our fingers
Until we become those twirling pins
Smaller and smaller, larger and farther
freer still
Until we become those twirling pins
Smaller and smaller, larger and farther
freer still
It is not enough for me to be a swallow, she says
for surely the world will be so much bigger and brighter from the smoldering eyes of a star.
This piece is so beautifully written—it captures both the ache of longing and the wonder of possibility. The imagery of stars and reflections is stunning, like a quiet rebellion against gravity itself. It feels both fragile and powerful, like a dream about to take flight.
ReplyDeleteNicole!!!!!! The imagery you used here was amazing, and I love how much of the interpretation is left to the reader. The color scheme and occasional white colored text add so much to the poem, and I love how you use enjambment (it creates a nice flow). Your poem was very intriguing :)
ReplyDeleteWow nicole, your poems never disappoint. I like how you tied it to gatsby but was different compared to normal fanfiction. I like the way you talked about stars -- they are quite nice indeed.
ReplyDeletelol this is not about gatsby
